RETIREMENT
@ LAKE CHAPALA
See our Lakeside Links & Resources Arriving At The Airport Arriving at Guadalajara you will be at a major international airport. Planes do not normally stop at the terminal and you will be loaded onto a bus and you will then be taken to the terminal building. Your bagage will be handled seperately. Once at the terminal you and your baggage will go through two different procedures. An immigration officer will check your documents including your visitors visa which you should have received while on the plane. You are strongly urged to have a valid passport as well as one other piece of photo ID. If you are staying longer than one month ask the official to stamp your FMT for 180 days. Do not loose this paperwork. If lost you will be charged a dollar amount on your exit from the country. Also, certain other institutions will need to see this documentation. After immigration you go to the baggage area and retrieve your bags and proceed to the customs area. Customs will then check your declaration form that you were given while on the plane. You may be asked questions regarding your baggage. He will then send you to the red/green light and you will be instructed to push a button. If you receive a red light they will check your luggage further. If you receive a green light you are on your way and will exit through the international doors. When directed by the officer, you will push the button on a pole with red and green lights. If you have had your baggage on a cart you will be asked to leave the cart and at this point you will find many willing porters to help you get your luggage to the car/taxi. Just outside the international doors there is a taxi stand as well as a car rental desk. Plan on tipping the porter 2-3 dollars or 30-40 pesos. If taking a taxi the fare to Ajijic is approximately 300 pesos. Have the name of your hotel written on a piece of paper as well as the address as the driver may not understand English. Have a printed copy of our map (map) with your destination clearly marked in order to assist the driver. If you can get direction in Spanish from your host at Lakeside this would be highly beneficial. You should tip your driver at your destination approximately 15%. ![]() |
